Teaching at FEED

Taught our regular session at the fantastic FEED Studio, Millennium Point, which is part of the brand new Birmingham Metropolitan College, with the HND Graphic Design second year students on Tuesday. Bloody hell that was a bit wordy! They are a great bunch of new designers coming through soon to industry - watch out!. Here are some pictures from the session. We were trying to work with them on generating visuals and sketchbook work for their autobiography brief away from the Mac. We re-introduced them to the old scalpel, paint, Letraset, drawing and tape! We then photocopied the illustrations to get those wonderful shadows and distortion where the copier tries to work out the depth of field. The only time we used the Mac was to type out the text and project the images large to re-shoot digitally, which added a new sort of blurriness and depth of field. A most enjoyable day...

Logo Police have been busy!!!

I have been walking past this large format poster for weeks and found myself getting angry at the laziness of the branding! Why do so many corporate designers keep re-appropriating the Nike tick!!! Nice one to whoever did this - bloody great!!!

Heterophobia at The Rep

We are pleased to announce that we will be performing Heterophobia at The Rep, Birmingham on March 17th. Full details can be found here: www.birmingham-rep.co.uk

It's free - hopefully see you there!

Bloody Great

[picture taken from off the CIB site]

It is probably very old news but for those of you that do not already know 'Created in Birmingham' have opened a shop in the Bullring. Probably because it is them doing it and not some 'Arts Council' funded one off talent sapping want to be curator or something equally shit - it's actually rather good. Professional artists, designers and students work exhibited together and all for sale. The work on show is bloody great and on a corny level it really helps to celebrate the local talent without the usual shite of Sunday Art, Si Scott rip offs and want to be Wanksy's, which tends to make these kind of things too parochial - come on.

Big respect to CIB,

WMA

New Work for 2010

We are very pleased to announce that we are once again working with the theatre Director Hannah Philips on a play entitled ‘Hetrophobia’, which will run at the REP, Birmingham in March, 2010. A tight turnaround but great to be working with her again after the success of ‘The Fear of Queer’ [see last post], which is traveling down to the West End in October 2010 – more news to follow on that soon.

We would also like to welcome Becky Wheeler to the ‘We Make Art’ team. Becky is working with us on this new production and is, as you read this, drawing out hundreds [well lots] of illustrations for the new ‘Hetrophobia’ films, welcome!

[above are screenshots from early production tests for ‘Hetrophobia].

The Fear of Queer

During November 2009 we were working flat out on the production of ‘Fear of Queer’ directed by Hannah Philips. We Vjayed the films live in collaboration with the actor’s performances. The run of nights, which were at The Custard Factory Theatre, Birmingham played out to a full-house every night. We are proud to announce that the play is moving top the West End in October 2010, more information to follow.
